Not So Healing Anymore…Rebranding

I will be rebranding to weBelong because the ‘healing’ implied too much that there is a ‘healer’ and that felt too ‘wellness’ to me
Do you like it?

I had the fortune to attend the Creative Economy F I had the fortune to attend the Creative Economy Finance Network inaugural summit thanks to @costellar.co this week. Did you know that Washington has the highest arts & culture value added share of states' GDP in the country? There is currently a concerted effort in WA state to invest in and create scaffolding to support the creative economy here. This includes financing, housing, programs, and more. We learned about what's already happening in WA and the out-of-the-box ways places like CA and CO are already implementing this. This summit included a wide cross section of folks from government agencies to investors to lenders to artists and community leaders to come up with priorities for this effort.Amidst all that's happening in our country, it was energizing and inspiring to be in a room with so many people invested in supporting artists and recognizing our important contributions to society. It was a good day.

Thanks to everyone who came to the Beyond Marginal Thanks to everyone who came to the Beyond Marginalization workshop on Saturday where we used face profiles to explore different sides of us.I've done lots of shadow work workshops in the past but this time, I looked at this work through a racial equity lens and decided to flip the narrative. Instead white=light and black=dark, I used the white paper to symbolize the versions of ourselves that we show the public and colored skin tone side as our true, sacred selves. It gave us an opportunity to reflect on ways our marginalized identities get buried or hidden so we can learn to integrate them back into how we show up in the world.I'm so bummed I forgot my camera but was able to take a few snaps on my phone while people worked on their art .
This post below was supposed to go out yesterday b This post below was supposed to go out yesterday but I could not do it (this is not the first execution- remember Oscar Grant). Like many of you, I think about what more I can do and keep coming back to community. The stronger our ties, the more powerful we are.Let's build community as we talk about getting grants to fund our much needed art that pushes against mainstream narratives about who gets to belong in America.Let's also support one of the many orgs already doing the work. We always offer these events for free so please consider donating to @waisn_org which provides direct support for detained immigrants.*************Do you want more $$ to support your artist practice? Whether you've applied to grants before or are new to them and unsure, this community roundtable is for everyone. We will be having a conversation about:
-Strategies for applying.
-Developing more confidence.
-Getting support.Dany Srey, Yaminee Patel, and Judy Lee will talk about their experiences with applying for and winning @kc4culture Artist Project Grants which are now open and due in March. While we are focusing on this grant, content is applicable to all grants.🗓️ Sunday, February 8, 2026
