Seeing Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was such a li

Seeing Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was such a light in anxiety ridden times. Her name means "lovely one," which is the name of the book.She talked about how grateful she was for all the role models and encouragement she had in her life and how she is where she is because of all the Black women who came before her. Being the first Black female justice was not because she was the first to be qualified but the first to have the opportunity. She also talked about how she has to give back and open the door for others. So many women of color in her position say the same, unlike a lot of *other* types of leaders.She is gracious, relatable, and down to earth. I'm looking forward to reading the book, which host Melinda French Gates said is great on audio. She sings too.

Join me at @artistsofcolorexpo on Saturday, August 17th at @kexp. I'll be featuring a portrait from my RAW project.

RAW is a portrait study of unsmiling women without makeup or hairstyling, accompanied by a brief poem written by participants. RAW asks both its participants and viewers to explore the concept of "difficult beauty," a transformative practice that encourages us to delve beyond the surface to explore and redefine beauty outside the patriarchal gaze.

ACES is an all day visual art exhibition featuring BIPOC artists, including a market, workshops, panels, performances, and film screenings.
